Come to the Other Side

I've often felt creative writing and English courses lack something: perspectives on the other side of publishing.

Students learn a lot about writing books, reading books and understanding books, but they don't always learn enough about producing books. That's why I got excited when I saw that the University of Leicester are providing a unique opportunity to be involved in the publishing industry.

Those students interested in transcultural writing, specifically, will have the option of applying for e-placements with top presses like Flipped Eye, SABLE, and of course Peepal Tree Press. I think this will be an invaluable insight into what it takes to get a book into print and, as Dr Lucy Evans says, 'Exploring the circumstances in which books are produced and circulated adds another dimension to literary studies'.
