Only 8 Hours? Ooooh!

So the tabloid press are at it again. As The Pink Paper points out, The Sun is hyping up the circumstances around Stephen Gately's untimely death with claims of an 'wild eight-hour [drinking] binge'. Of course, if you think about it, that's from 8pm till 4am, or 10pm till 6am. Which seems pretty average for a night out in my neck of the woods. There are also aghast claims that the singer drank 'potent cocktails' and white wine. 'Potent cocktails' seems somewhat of an oxymoron, as cocktails are strong by their very nature. If Carrie Bradshaw died, I wonder, would they blame the cosmos and martinis? I doubt it, somehow. And just how many 'potent cocktails' and how much white wine must a person drink before it's anything as scandalous as a tabloid headline? Stephen Gately died doing nothing out of the ordinary. Leave the poor guy alone. If anyone is to blame, it's the society that encourages binge drinking then chastises people for doing the same.

Yet another reason people are calling for a boycott of the paper.
